About Jarrett
By: Becky Little

Jarrett was born July 24th, 1984 at Tri-County Hospital (now known as Hutcheson) in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.

His first home was known as our Harker house. We called it that because of the street name. That was our home until we out grew it.

We then made the move to Ringgold, Ga. Only about 6 miles east of our Harker house. We had problems with that house and moved again. We had a house built one street over. That eventually became our "HOME".

Within a month of moving into this house, we had our own house fire. It was just a few short years later that Jarrett got interested in the fire department.  A fire fighter and a few younger guys were testing a fire hydrant across from our house and Jarrett seen the fire truck.  Out the door he went.  He was hooked from that moment on.  He found out that they had an explorers program and joined the post 2305 at the age of 12.

At that time they were known as the Boynton Bad Boys.  I called them "go-fors"...go-for-this and go -for-that.  But they still had to learn all the necessities needed to become a fire fighter. They had to know where each piece of equipment was and where it belonged.

His brother Sean became and explorer a year later when he turned 12.  He was just following in his brothers footsteps.  They got to go on calls together and they helped the fire fighters with the tools that were needed while on a call.

At age 18, they were allowed to go into a burning structure and actually get to fight a real fire.  He would always get disappointed if they got cancelled. He loved being a fire fighter.  He ate it up.  He dreamed it, lived it, breathed it and died for it. He honestly lived out his dream.  He was a FIREFIGHTER.

Jarrett, his brother Sean and his best friend Lance went down south to help fight the wild fires near the Ga./Fl. border about 2 years ago (in 2007).  Though it too was a learning experience, they had only been away from home for about 12 days and just couldn't wait to come home.  He called his daddy to ask if he could call in a favor from one of his friends to fly down and pick them up.  He just couldn't ride the bus back.  His daddy couldn't get the plane and all 3 of them had to endure the 8 hours on the bus~anyway.

Jarrett took as many classes and courses that were offered.  He took swiftwater rescue as well.  Three weeks prior to the accident, Jarrett was certified as a Rope Rescue Tech.  (He never got to see his certificate).  He learned to rappel so he would be able to go on cave rescues too.  He was just learning to rock climb with his new girlfriend Shannon Burger.  He participated in anything and everything that had to do with the fire department.  He learned whatever it took to do the job and to do it to the best of his ability.

Jarrett was employed with the Walker County Fire department in Georgia.  He was already working and stationed at Station 11 in LaFayette, GA.  When the new ambulance service for each county took effect, Walker County decided to have the fire department and the ambulance service housed under one roof at different fire stations.  They would also start their new work shifts.  They would work 24/48 shifts.  (work for 24 hrs. and be off for 48). That was the same schedule that his brother Sean worked.  He liked it and told Jarrett that he would like it too.

It was then that Jarrett, Matt and Adam got transferred to their new station in Chickamauga, GA. Station 6.  Jarrett would be closer to home and would save money on gas.  He would also be available to work his other part time job on his off days.

December 31st, 2008, was the start of the new work schedule and the new services being housed under the same roof.  Before they could even start their day...they had to clean the station and get it ready to be "lived in".  It hadn't been lived in for sometime.  They had to get 2 different batteries just to get the fire truck started.  That's how long it had been un-manned, but Jarrett was excited.  He loved it. He was ready to be closer to home.

Jarrett had called his daddy earlier that day and asked him to bring him a few items.  He did and stayed a little while to check out his new station.  When I got off work and found out that Kenny had been to visit Jarrett's new station - I said that I wanted to go and visit him and see it too.  When we got there, they were still cleaning.  So, we rolled up our sleeves and pitched in.

I got to help cook his last dinner and he done his part in cleaning up the dishes.  Even though I was there, he said that it was his job and he had to wash 'em.  So, I let him.  After we finished, he went back to work.  As I started to leave and walk out, I remembered that it was New Year's Eve and I wanted to wish him a Happy New Year.  I went back in toward the fire truck and found him already inside.  I tapped him on his butt and wished him a Happy New Year and told him that I loved him.

That was the last time that I got to see him alive.  Most people don't get "that final time" with someone when it's a vehicle accident.  I'm grateful for that, though I wished I had stayed longer.  I am his mother and I'm proud of Jarrett and our son Sean as well.

Jarrett enjoyed just about everything he did in life.  He wasn't always treated right by others and maybe this can be a wake up call to them.

Jarrett had the most beautiful blue eyes and a smile that went from ear to ear.  He had a contagious laugh as well.

We all will miss Jarrett, his laugh, his smile, his blue eyes....just him in general.

WE MISS YOU AND LOVE YOU FOREVER AND ALWAYS ~

MAMA, DADDY, SEAN, KAYLA, SHANNON, ANGIE, KRISSY, YOUR AUNT (SIS) AND ALL YOUR FAMILY & FRIENDS.

JARRETT HARD AT WORK...

 I Wish You Were Here

Written by Becky Little on March 4, 2009

I wish you were here

I miss you every day

I cry for you each morning, noon and night

No words can really be said to help ease the pain

People want to help they just don't know how

They say the wrong things at times

They just don't understand

I wish you were here

I love you my Jarrett

JARRETT, NICKI & TYLER...ON THEIR WAY DOWN TO SEE ANGIE IN MISSISSIPPI~BEFORE SHE LEFT OUT FOR IRAQ.......

THIS IS JARRETT'S BEST FRIEND LANCE. THEY'VE BEEN FRIENDS SINCE MIDDLE SCHOOL OR LONGER.  THIS PICTURE WAS WHILE THEY WERE IN FLORIDA ON VACATION TOGETHER ~ AUGUST 2008.

LIES

MY MOM...SHE TELLS A LOT OF LIES. SHE NEVER DID BEFORE. BUT FROM NOW UNTIL SHE DIES...SHE'LL TELL A WHOLE LOT MORE.

ASK MY MOM HOW SHE IS...AND BECAUSE SHE CAN'T EXPLAIN...SHE WILL TELL A LITTLE LIE...BECAUSE SHE CAN'T DESCRIBE THE PAIN.

ASK MY MOM HOW SHE IS...SHE'LL SAY: "I'M ALRIGHT". IF THAT'S THE TRUTH, THEN TELL ME...WHY DOES SHE CRY EACH NIGHT?

ASK MY MOM HOW SHE IS...SHE SEEMS TO COPE SO WELL. SHE DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE YOU SEE...NOR THE STRENGTH TO EVEN YELL.

ASK MY MOM HOW SHE IS...''I'M FINE, I'M WELL, I'M COPING''. FOR GOD'S SAKE MOM, JUST TELL THE TRUTH. JUST SAY YOUR HEART IS BROKEN.

SHE'LL LOVE ME ALL HER LIFE...I LOVED HER ALL OF MINE. BUT IF YOU ASK HER HOW SHE IS...SHE'LL LIE AND SAY SHE'S FINE.

I AM HERE IN HEAVEN...I CAN NOT HUG FROM HERE...IF SHE LIES TO YOU...DON'T LISTEN. HUG HER AND HOLD HER NEAR.

ON THE DAY WE MEET AGAIN..WE'LL SMILE AND I'LL BE BOLD. I'LL SAY: "YOU'RE LUCKY TO GET IN HERE...MOM, WITH ALL THE LIES YOU TOLD''.

 JARRETT HARD AT WORK...

ALWAYS SMILING AND FULL OF CHEER

YOU'RE MISSED BY MANY HERE ON EARTH

DON'T SAY GOOD-BYE...

JUST SEE YOU LATER

CONNECTED

We are connected my child and I,  By an invisible cord not seen by the eye.  It's not like the cord that connects us at birth.  This cord can't been seen, by any on earth.  This cord does it 's work right from the start.  It binds us together, attached to the heart.  I know that it's there, though no one can see.  The invisible cord, from my child to me.  The strength of this cord, it's hard to describe.  It can't be destroyed, it can't be denied.  It's stronger than any cord man could create.  It withstands the test, can hold any weight.  And though you are gone and you're not here with me.  The cord is still there, but no one can see.  It pulls at my heart, I am bruised, I am sore.  But the cord is my lifeline as never before.  I'm thankful that God...connects us this way...A mother and child, Death can't take it away.

YOU SHOULD BE OVER "IT"...BUT WHAT IS "IT"?

IT'S BEEN A YEAR YOU SHOULD BE OVER IT.  WHAT EXACTLY IS "IT"?  BUT DO PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER SUFFERED LOSS ~ REALLY KNOW WHAT ''IT" IS?

                             TO US THE BEREAVED...

''IT'' IS FIVE DAYS AFTER THE FUNERAL AND YOUR WORLD CAVES IN WITH REALITY OF THE LOSS.

''IT'' IS THANKSGIVING DAY TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING TO BE THANKFUL FOR.

"IT'' IS CHRISTMAS WITHOUT THE MERRY AND NEW YEARS WITHOUT THE HAPPY.

''IT'' IS YOUR FIRST DAY BACK TO WORK WHEN EVERY MINUTE YOU ARE AFRAID YOU WILL BURST INTO TEARS.

"IT" IS THEIR BIRTHDAY BUT THERE IS NO 'THEM' TO CELEBRATE.

"IT" IS VALENTINE'S DAY ONLY THIS TIME - NO HEARTS AND FLOWERS TO SHARE WITH THEM AND YOUR HEART IS BROKEN.

"IT" IS YOUR BIRTHDAY AND THERE IS STILL NO 'THEM' TO CELEBRATE IT WITH.

"IT" IS SPRINGTIME WHEN EVERYTHING COMES ALIVE EXCEPT YOU THAT IS.

"IT" IS EASTER AND EVERYONE IS SINGING "LET US REJOICE AND BE GLAD" BUT THERE IS NO REJOICING AND NO GLAD IN YOUR HEART.

"IT" IS MOTHER'S DAY AND YOU SADLY REMEBER HOW HAPPY BEING A MOTHER MADE YOU FEEL OR HOW YOU REJOICED WITH YOUR SPOUSE OVER THE BIRTH.

"IT" IS FATHER'S DAY AND YOU SADLY REMEMBER HOW HAPPY BEING A FATHER MADE YOU FEEL OR HOW YOU REJOICED WITH YOUR SPOUSE OVER THE BIRTH.

"IT" IS THE 4TH OF JULY AND THE CELEBRATIONS REMIND YOU JUST HOW LITTLE YOU FEEL YOU HAVE TO CELEBRATE NOW.

"IT" IS VACATION TIME AND YOU JUST STAY HOME BECAUSE THERE IS NOWHERE TO GO TO NOT FEEL SO EMPTY.

"IT" IS HALLOWEEN AND YOU PASS OUT CANDY  BUT YOU REMEMBER ALL THE MEMORIES OF PAST HAPPY TIMES TOGETHER AND IT MAKES YOU SAD.

"IT" IS SEEING MILESTONES IN YOUR LIFE PROGRESS AND PASS AND YOUR LOVED ONE IS GONE NEVER TO SHARE THEM WITH.

"IT" IS LOOKING AT THE MOON AND WONDERING IF THEY SEE THE SAME MOON LIKE THE TWO OF YOU ALWAYS DID - IN THE PAST.

"IT" IS RECEIVING THE FIRST WEDDING INVITATION TO THEIR FRIEND'S WEDDING AND KNOWING THAT LIFE GOES ON WITHOUT YOUR LOVED ONE.

"IT" IS GOING BACK INTO THAT CHURCH FOR THE FIRST TIME AND REMEMBERING BUT NOT REMEMBERING AND FEELING THAT ALL EYES ARE ON YOU.

"IT" IS GOING TO ANOTHER FUNERAL FOR THE FIRST TIME AND FEELING YOURSELF SHAKING ALL OVER TOO DISTRAUGHT TO STAY BUT UNABLE TO LEAVE.

"IT" IS DOING ALL THE THINGS YOU ALWAYS DID PLUS ALL THE THINGS YOU HAD HOPED TO DO TOGETHER AND DOING IT ALL WHEN ALL OF YOUR ENERGY HAS BEEN USED FOR GRIEVING.

"IT" IS BEING STRONG WHEN YOU REALLY FEEL WEAK.

"IT" IS DEALING WITH ALL THE LEGALITY OF ESTATES AND SUCH WHEN ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS HIBERNATE.

"IT" IS A WHOLE BIG BUNCH OF STUFF YOU DIDN'T ASK FOR DIDN'T WANT AND CAN'T EVEN GIVE AWAY.

"IT" IS GOING TO THE CEMETARY AND SEEING THE MONUMENT WITH THEIR NAME OR EVEN FACE AND IT HITS YOU IN THE FACE THAT "THIS IS REAL!"

"IT" IS APPROACHING THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF THEIR DEATH AND RELIVING IT ALL ~ OH YES SOME THINGS MIGHT BE BETTER BUT THE VOID IS NO LESS!

"IT" IS PEOPLE FORGETTING AND YOU CRY...AND PEOPLE REMEMBERING AND YOU CRY...

Happy 25th Birthday Jarrett Lee Little

On Juli 24th 2009 we celebrated Jarrett Lee Little's 25th birthday with a balloon release from
the accident site. The balloon release was held at 10:06 a.m. the hour that Jarrett was born on Juli 24 1984. We look forward to seeing where the balloon's land.

With the Walker Co. Messenger

Family and friends gathered Friday to remember the 25th birthday of firefighter Jarrett Little who died Dec. 31 2008 responding to a call in which his fire truck overturned at the intersection of McFarland Avenue and Mission Ridge Road in Rossville.

A group of 35-40 made their way to the site of the accident to remember the young man who “gave to save” as many friends and colleagues can attest to.

The group released dozens of balloons at 10:06 a.m. the time at which Little was born in Fort Oglethorpe in 1984.

Balloons were also given to firefighters at fire stations Nos. 1 and 6 in Walker County and stations Nos. 1 and 8 in Fort Oglethorpe in addition to family and friends in Colorado Florida Georgia Virginia Kentucky and Tennessee all of which were released at the same time.

Mary Anne Hendricks of Tunnel Hill felt “privileged” that her 4-year-old son found one of the balloons and responded to the memorial website www.jarrett-little.memory-of.com.

Becky and Kenny Little Jarrett’s parents have built a memorial at the site of the crash with a small billboard that has two photos of Jarrett along with flowers and firefighter keepsakes and a plaque from Granny
LeCroy.

Kenny Little is grateful that Brett Salmon owner of EMS. Inc has been very helpful in allowing the Little family place a memorial on his property at the crash site.

Friends and family consoled each other with hugs and a few memories of Jarrett.

One of Becky Little’s favorite memories besides her son’s glowing smile is of her son as a junior at Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe High School.

Jarrett had been kicked off of the school bus and his mother made him walk home five miles along Battlefield Parkway in knee-high grass. It took him 90 minutes to arrive home. The
path Jarrett took was mowed the next day explained his parents laughing at the irony.

His parents vividly recall his initial interest in becoming a firefighter as if it were yesterday.

Jarrett was 12 years old out in the yard when a fire truck pulled up to test the fire hydrants said his father Kenny.

Jarrett noticed a few children near his age get off the truck. They were Firefighter Explorers
a program that teaches teens about the fire service.

The following Monday Jarrett joined the
Fort Oglethorpe Post 2305 Explorers nicknamed the “Boynton Bad Boys.”

Both Jarrett’s father Kenny and younger brother Sean would later follow his lead and join the program.

Shannon Burger joined the Fort Oglethorpe Fire Department and had been dating Jarrett for four months when Little was killed.

Burger is working with
Fort Oglethorpe officials for a run/walk fund-
raiser in Little’s honor sometime in late Oktober.

Thinking of you Angel and your loving family. God Bless

Big hugs and LOL.

Claudia proud mom to ~Rocky~
